Does it affect stats? For instance if I were to raise a pokemon one level by training it, would it get more of a stat boost than if I just fed it a rare candy?

Cheers

if you raise your pokemon levels with the rare candy its not as strong as if you trained it

Steriods eh? That gives me an idea...

Would I be able to make up the difference using Iron, Zinc and Carbos etc?

Yes, and then some. But those are rather expensive, if I do remember.

if you have a level 99...or was 100 the max? but anyways, if you have one, can you still give it carbos, calcium, all that steroidy goodness and just max the hell out of 'em? 'cuz if so, i want an unevolved rattata that can take out any level 70 anything with a tackle...owned

Rare Candied Pokemon get owned by EV'ed Pokemon. Even with Carbos and stuff.

Oh, and you can only feed 10 of each vitamin to a single Pokemon.
#18
NO! Why cheat? .. it's ****ing illegal man, you're so dead right now..
#19
Yeah man, everyone knows that they can only have a certain amount of carbos etc.
Rare candy sux.

A lvl 100 rare candied pokemon = owned by lvl 80 trained pokemon,

It doesn't matter if you use a few rare candies, only if you do the missingno. trick and get a million rare candies and use them to level up to level 100 it won't be as strong. Otherwise, it is absolutely no different to normal levelling up.

Time to geek this thread all the hell up.

Ok, so the important thing to know is that Pokemon has secret stat infuencing numbers going on. There are certain ones that are set in with the pokemon, determining it's max stats. I believe these are called the DV's. Esentially, they range from 1-15, with 1 being the lowest, and that determines how high that stat can go, and how much it increases by.

Stats themselves are not increased strictly by level. I forget what term is used (EVs? Whatever, doesn't matter.) but there is a secret "exp" of sorts for each stat. Every pokemon you fight has a set number of stat increasing exp. So a lvl 1 pidgey has the same value, stat wise, as a lvl 100 pidgey.

Calciums, Proteins and the like increase the second one, the stat exp. Every pokemon can reach a set number of experince for each stat. However, they can reach lvl 100 without getting to that full number. Also, if you train your pokemon past a certain point without giving them the stat uppers, and then try and give them the items, it's possible they won't take the full 10, as it would put them past their max number.

Why does this matter? Well, the reason why rare candied pokemon (and traded pokemon) are weaker than their normally leveled counterparts is that they go up a level without gaining the stat exp they need to increase their stats.

(This applys to R/B/Y and G/S/C...I'm pretty sure the games after that use an even move complex system.)
