Hey guys, I'm pretty new to customizing guitars and I want to have a try at it. I have a Squier telecaster affinity series. I need new pickups and probably a new neck.

I checked out guitar center for noiseless pickups and it was like 107 dollars, I don't know if thats a bargain or not so I will shop around a little more.

Cosmetics like color and what not the body is butterscotch blonde, I don't mind the color But I want to get a black pick guard because I don't like the white one but thats not a big deal.

Last thing, where can I find a fender neck? I don't think guitar center has any lol, so my option is websites. Any of you guys use any reliable websites, any websites I should avoid?

Thanks guys for your time. Like I said I'm practically a noob at customizing guitars but I want to get into it more so thanks.

Stupid thing im gonna say. I asked someone if i could put a vibrato on my tele and the guy was like no it'll warp the **** out of your neck. but yeah I'm a fan of the bigsby though so I might. I probably won't go for a new neck but pick ups and a new bridge to fit a bigsby that might be cooler.

No do a fender bigsby style but if you do a genuine bigsby your guitar will be cursed.

Oh wait its already a squire so you needn't worry.

Yeah thats why I want to make it better, but yeah I'm liking the bigsby idea though. I need to save up some money for this though. But Its gonna be worth it.

Squier Affinity Teles and Strats are awesome platforms to start mods. The GF recommendation above is solid ... lots of folks here swear by them, given the inexpensive pricing.

+1 also on replacing the electronics/wiring harness, that'll definitely bring some very noticeable improvements.

As far as the neck is concerned, what's wrong with it? Other than simple fret dressing, those inexpensive necks are pretty solid, a bit thin for my taste, but sufficient for most.

Search for twostring's tutorial on fret dressing, it might be all you need. I think Warmoth is overpriced. Search for Musikraft, awesome customization options and is Fender-licensed ... superior to Mighty Mite and equal to Japan-made AllParts neck.

Good Luck!

Try routing the neck position for a humbucker. Right now I have a Squier Tele I've routed H-H and for a TOM bridge, as well as string thru. That said

Yeah nothing is wrong with the neck, I think mine is maple but I don't know if there are better but I bought this guitar knowing that alot of people dig on squires. I actually like the feel of the neck, I'm glad its a good mod guitar too.

About the bigsby curse what happens if I actually put a licensed bigsby not a fender bigsby on it? When I plug my guitar in would it electrocute me and kill me? Or would I lose my left hand and never be able to play again?

But anyway when I start modding my tele I will keep tabs on it and when It's finished I will post sound recordings of it.

A neck will probably run you ATLEAST $120. In my opinion, if the neck isn't broken and you like it, then don't replace it.

As said, I would try guitarfetish.com for Pick ups. I would also change the Pots too.

Good Luck

Nothing that severe... Just Paul Bigsby's spirit will come into your room and strangle to death while you sleep. No big deal.

ok than I will make sure its a fender style bigsby because I don't want to die like that. Cuz atleast paul bigsby could atleast kill me off while I'm playing my newly modded Tele

Yeah the tele was 169 when i got it at guitar center almost a year ago. So I'll keep the neck, alrighty then judging what I should do I really need to get a soldering iron than lol. Would I need a new bridge for the bigsby vibrato too or could I fandangle that? I only got 30 bucks in my savings so its gonna take awhile before I get this off the ground but it will get off the ground. Thanks again for your guys' words of advice

Well you dont definitely need a new bridge. Ive seen some done with a cut up stock Tele bridge but you should use something like this

Of course if you want to mind the Bigsby curse...

Also dont do a HH set up with the Bigsby. I think the stock is more classic which goes along better with the Bigsby because thats a very classy look. So I donated my .02 to your Tele. Spend it well.

Can't blame you. It takes a lot of time and patience to do it (kinda screwed mine up myself, but since it was basically a free guitar, it doesn't bother me too much)

Yeah the curse is something im superstitious about, so I will make sure the bigsby has the F stamped on it. I will spend it wisely thanks its probably gonna take a lot of time and dedication so I think it will be really worth it and I can audition for bands there after so they won't laugh me out of their space when they see i have a squier but it will be a fun project.
