My old computer, which ran XP, died two weeks ago. Last week, I got a new computer. It's got a Dual-core AMD Athalon 3800+ processor, 1 GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce 6150SE. Not the best specs, but it's alot better than what I had before. Being the computer is brand new, we were -somewhat- forced to switch to Vista. Now, I was afraid of the switch as the internet community HATES VISTA and would take down Gates for it any chance they would get. But I've been using Vista for the past week... and I actually like it. I really don't see anything wrong with it. It's actually worked alot better than my old computer did. Everything WORKS. I've had no problems WHATSOEVER. The only problem I did have was related to my video card and NOT Vista. What is so bad about Vista?

I want to know why you guys don't like it.
Give me specific reasons.
I use Home Premium.

i love Vista.

Yes. FIREFOX FTW!
The only thing I don't like is that one of my games takes like 5 minutes to launch and Alt Tabbing out takes too long, but that may be the video card or the processor, I don't know :S
Nothing too major that would give me a grudge on Vista.
The thing I hate is that half the people that hate Vista haven't lived with it. I hated Vista, but only because everyone else did. I now like it.
#4
Because Microsoft is beginning this trend where they release sh1t way b4 they really should and it ends up running crappy like as a result..and they do it all just because of the extra profit they will get for getting it out on a specific release date. Take xbox 360 for example, a microsoft product; serious issues were found and we all know that they rushed the consoles out to the market to get them out in time for christmas. Now it has crash and overheating issues as a result. They pretty much did the same with vista.
#5
my only problem with it is the administrator-user thing. its like everything has to be approved its just annoying. other than that, its pretty dang cool, really pretty

despite the fact that vista was almost a year late?

The approval thing is good- it is pretty good for defense if a viral program wants to run itself or something O_o
As for my family, everyone is an Admin except my 7 year old brother, so I'm not annoyed by Admin/User rights.

well it's got some bugs still and is a ****ing pain to install. Plus it's not really that secure, and to run it you need

- a new computer ($1200)
- vista ($600)
- Microsoft office premium[the other ones don't have outlook] ($700 but you don't "need' to have it
- there more but i forgot...

anyway, it's WAAAAAY too expensive, didn't live up to it's hype at all, and in my opinion, isn't really better than XP, sure it's prettier, but I'm not paying $600 for prettier.
#11
Heh, we got this computer for $369 and it came with Vista Home Premium. Store installed Vista for us. GO ME! I'm not too concerned about not having Outlook (I use Yahoo! mail, but my mom wants it because she hates the online mail service given to us by the cable company) and Word becuase I can just use something crappy and get the same results.

Or not. I got my computer for $1,000 (exactly, well it was 4 cents over...) and vista came with it (Home Premium). 2 gigs RAM, 512 MB videocard, 120 gigs memory (could've gone 250 for 70$ extra).

The only reason I would ever switch to Vista is for DirectX 10, bastards making it only available to Vista, bastards.
#18
You void the warranty if you uninstall Vista.

My roommate installed it when it came out. ~6 months later, his computer takes 3 boots to properly start up.

1. It sucks more system resources then downloading porn because of the 'hipster' flashy interface.

2. The unblock function is so much of a pain it makes me want to mutilate small animals. If you're not a retard, you won't get a virus to start with.

3. It has the same problem XP had: it's a piece of sh*t until they put out a couple of service packages.

4. I will not pay for 'games for Vista' (which is a ****ty underhanded way of making people buy your product, by the way) when I have a XBox360 that plays the same thing, but doesn't require half of my system resources to run the OS.

5. Nothing really needs DirectX 10 yet anyway.

I work at a computer store and the main computer tech guy says he hates it because alot of stuff isnt compatible with it and your computer would run way faster if it had xp.

but i havent tried so i wouldn't know

I'm using a bootleg Microsoft office 2003 on my vista and it works perfect.

As a student in the informatics department at my university, I'm apparently a member of the MSDNAA (academic alliance) which means I get free copies of XP, Vista (both 32 and 64 bit versions) and all the .net development software. I can also purchase a full copy of Office for £36 ($70-ish methinks)

I may download vista, and just stick it on a disc until I have no choice but to use it.

That's a powerful system! Not the best specs? You've got more than enough power for any task... unless you want your computer to work for NASA.

Why were you forced to use Vista? I know, XP is going out of support soon, but there are alternatives. Linux and BSD are much better than any proprietary kernels out there.

Don't listen to him, that's a silly Mac owner .

1 gb of RAM won't do good for Vista. Get 2 gigs.

i got a computer that sounds about the exact same as yours and for the same reason TS. I'm happy enough with it but for some reason some things download or load by the kilobyte...annoying as ****. Other than that so far everything has been bearable enough, not to mention it looks fantastic.

i have vista home premium. i really like it. i havent encountered any problems yet. whoever said that you need office, screw that. open office ftw. its free, and is actually a nice set of programs.

as long as your computer has decent specs, you should have much of a problem. at least not when it comes to effectively running vista.

it runs smooth on my HP notebook. i have an AMD Turion 64 X2 1.8ghz, 2gb ram, 160gb hard drive, nvidia Geforce Go 6150 graphics card.

my girlfriend has a similar notebook, similar specs except that she only has 1gb of ram. it actually makes a reasonable difference when running vista. her notebook runs slower, and takes longer to open programs and such. from what ive read, you shouldnt consider less than 2gb if you want to run vista well.

Vista inspired me to switch to Ubuntu, a sweet Linux distro.

It's teh-freakin-pwn. Once you get a nice theme and Window Manager (Beryl, look it up on Youtube) it's far sexier than Vista. It's much faster too, even with all the visuals.
