Okay, don't make fun of me for asking..

but is it possible to convert a guitar to a bass? I know practically everything would have to be switched out, but is it at all possible to use a guitar body to make a bass?

im pretty sure you can, all you gotta change is the neck and the bridge.
you might have to make adjustments where the neck joins the body so that the newer neck fits.

Yeah, it can, just a matter of getting the neck/pocket to size & electrics mainly.

Is there any black people on UG?
I don't think a lot of black people play guitar anymore.

Well, you could, I guess, but it'd be a pain in the butt, honestly.

Of course it'd be.. but I have access to more people getting rid of old guitars than basses..

and sometimes the guitar bodys look cooler.. :P

I personally don't think it would work. You'd need a different width neck, a better reinforced neck, most guitar bodies aren't long enough for a decent scale length, a bigger headstock...the list goes on and on.

Cheap amps are "that bad". They suck up your tone like cocaine at Kate Moss' party.

You could but youd probably waste a lot of time and money into a mediocre bass. For one the neck would need to be changed, thebody would need modification (which if it has a trem youd need to fill it), and the electronics would need to be changed... leaving you with the modified origional body and thats probably all. Its would also look akward with the guitar body with the longer bass neck.

it's possible for a group of monkeys in a room with typewriters to eventually hammer out shakespeare given a long enough timeline. but this would just be a waste of time...

With a bridge swap, a neck pocket re-rout and a fully custom neck (quite long, and with a bunch of extra frets if you're gonna be shooting for a standard bass scale length)...

But you could go the PoTUSA route and make some sort of crazy halfway-instrument.
