I have a question. Why is prostitution illegal?

I may sound ignorant, stupid, and like a sex offender, but I'm curious.
I don't understand why it's illegal.
I'm not trying to be some anarchist or whatever.
#2
yeah, it is a valid question. Mostly because girls are being put on the street, to make money by having sex. Its not really a good thing to have legal in your country.

I'm sure it was originally made illegal because it went against religion. And now it's illegal because it's just considered morally wrong.

Google is your friend,
there is many more reasons

Legalization/decriminalization of prostitution is a gift to pimps, traffickers and the sex industry.
Legalization/decriminalization of prostitution and the sex industry promotes sex trafficking.
Legalization/decriminalization of prostitution does not control the sex industry. It expands it.
Legalization/decriminalization of prostitution increases clandestine, hidden, illegal and street prostitution.
Legalization of prostitution and decriminalization of the sex Industry increases child prostitution.
Legalization/decriminalization of prostitution does not protect the women in prostitution.
Legalization/decriminalization of prostitution increases the demand for prostitution. It boosts the motivation of men to buy women for sex in a much wider and more permissible range of socially acceptable settings.
Legalization/decriminalization of prostitution does not promote women's health.
Legalization/decriminalization of prostitution does not enhance women's choice.
Women in systems of Prostitution do not want the sex industry legalized or decriminalized.

Probably to prevent husbands and boyfriends (or dads and family members) from forcing women their women onto the street to make money, and probably to help contain STI`s
#8
I haven't thought about it much but, the reason women end up as prostitues, mostly, is because they are forced into it by their situation.

This won't end with the ilegilisation of prostitution. So, when we make it illegal, what are we doing except pushing prostitues outwith the protection of the law and making it harder for us to help them?

They're helped when their pimps are locked up in prison, and the prostitutes are helped to get back on their feet, for example on rehab courses if they have drug addictions.

it's mostly a social stigma, people have a problem with it, I'm sure most people don't even know why they have a problem with it. I think it should be controlled like in the vegas brothels, where they have so many regulations to keep things from going wrong. I think it should be absolutly illegal on the streets, for the sake of the prostitutes themselves and to keep desease from spreading.

Taking drugs is still illegal, being a pimp (well, all the individual acts required to make you a "pimp") would still be illegal?

yea it is because its hard to tax, just like weed and everything else thats fun

the government wants money out of it. Which is why cigarettes and alcohol are still legal despite the harmful effects.

prostitution is fun?

alcohol was illegal for a few years in the US...when it became illegal, overall consumption of alcohol, deaths related to alcohol (because amateurs were producing it) and organized crime, among other things, increased across the country...so it was made legal again

so that at least combats your theory that alcohol is legal solely based on monetary issues

Yeah, it's legal for them to escort, it is not legal for them to **** who they are escorting (for money that is...). though it would seem allot of escorts do just that.

I find it weird that prostitution is illegal while porn is legal. Prostitution is legal in a lot of countries in Europe and they got no problem with it. As long as it's regulated and condoms are required, I don't see the reason for it being illegal.

And to the guy above, "escorts" have found a loophole in the law. They say that they're selling their "time" not their bodies, but really they're still *****s.
#25
What's so bad about being an anarchist?

Prostitution should be legal and taxed so we all can at least get some social benefit to disillusioned women selling themselves.

They have legalised brothels in various US states and there's been debates about allowing similar in the UK.
