Okay, we all know that whenever theres a bass line thread, it always gets the same responses

YYZ
Orion
Tommy the Cat
Maxwell Murder

etc etc.

This is a thread to tell others what your favorite bass line is, that almost never gets mentioned, I'll start with

Journey to the end of East Bay - Rancid

Mush Bass-Pirates, MUSH!!

I love you.

I'm pretty sure that's a sampled line, but whatevs, it's still an excellent choice.

That's sampled from a Charles Wright song. It's a funk song, and a good one. Not that I have anything against sampling, but I think the credit should go to the original for the purposes of this thread

So here are some of mine:

I Want You (She's So Heavy)--The Beatles Paul MacCartney put a lot of subtlty in his basslines, and a lot of younger bass players seem to overlook his work with the Beatles.
The Real Me--The Who That one probably gets mentioned a lot, but it kicks ass.
Blister in the Sun--Violent Femmes Simple but extremely fun.

There are more I will probably think of.

I would say What is Hip by Tower of Power
and Battlestar Scratchica by Incubus
and about every Strokes song. Nikolai Fraiture is such a underrated bassist.

What is Hip is a good song. And I should have mentioned the strokes. Their basslines aren't overly flashy, but they are perfect for the songs they play.

My Morning Jacket has some good bass playing. Not flashy, but well-written.

Alot of my non-named favourites have already been mentioned, but...I'll also add

Watching the Detectives by Elvis Costello (Nick Lowe, bassist), Mary the Ice Cube by Primus and Waiting Room by Fugazi.

"Song 2" by Blur. Hands down. It's simple, but it's definitely one of the best distorted bass lines out there.

Also, "Let's Get Retarded" by the Black Eyed Peas.

Cake - "The Distance." Very funky.

Botch - "Afghamistam." Great layered basslines - simple but emotional at the same time.

Rammstein - "Seemann." Beautiful, melodic and it basically carries the song.

Killer Queen - QUEEN (So sweet <3 )

This song(Killer Queen) got me into learnin/listening to Queen in the amount i do...

And the bassline for:
Millionier Waltz i so amazing! yet it not technicology hard (no slaping, tapping etc) just normal fingerstyle. The song is quiet diffcult Deacon play a very nice melodic 3/4 (waltz-time) line.

I would second Disposition - Tool.

Also, most early Incubus, like Redefine and Deep Inside are cool.

Zero 7 has a surprisingly large amount of awesome basslines, such as on I Have Seen, Destiny, Salt Water Sound.

Also, check out some JBT songs. Good Excuse has a fun bassline, as does Pickapart.

I quite like the bass line to Lounge Act by Nirvana

Also, one of the all time greats has to be the line To Rapper's Delight by the Sugarhill Gang. It's sampled I think, or at least the same line from Good Times by Chic, but I think most people would know it from the Sugarhill Gang song.

Edit: Another sampled bassline, Around the World by Daft Punk. Simple and brilliant.
