look into the peavey vlave king series.
maybe consider the valve king head and check out the cabs pavey has.
With this set up, you shouldn't be disappointed.

ive read the guitar world review for the valve king and its a general brit voiced isnt? and there were some knobs that shouldnt be in the back or something like that
#7
yeah, i read the article too.
the knobs on the back are those such as "texture class a/b and what not.
they seemed to rip on the amp a little too hard.
go to guitar sites and read the reviews.

Used Peavey 5150 Combo or Mesa F-30/F-50. Don't waste your money on a cheap halfstack for that kind of money, you can get MUCH better.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

No, you don't need a halfstack to gig. The F series is what came before the express amps and the express series is nothing compared to the F series (imo). The F series has very nice cleans and a very liquidy gain channel, great for leads and metal rhythms when the gain is cranked. The F-30 is only 30 watts, but it's VERY loud. Remember, tube amps are 2.5-3 times louder than a solid state amp, so that F-30 is comparable to a 60-90 watt SS amp.

The F series are now discontinued and can only be bought used, unless a shop that sells Mesa near you still has some left over. I'd look into the 5150 as well, it's the exact same amp as the 6505 you see at the store. They can be found pretty cheap used $500-700.
