I want a bright neck and this is the brightest wood I've seen besides Maple, Satine (Bloodwood) or Pau Ferro...the last two being too expensive.

I've read that padouk has an oily texture and I'm afraid if it is, it won't be as fast as a satin maple. I want the neck to be very, very fast. The padouk also won't require finishing, which I like. By the time I pay to add a peghead veneer and finish the maple in satin, I could buy the padouk for about the same price.

I'm getting a Wizard profile and don't want any possibility of warping from such a thin neck. I know maple tends to warp easier.

Got a question?

Sure. It was in the title. Are there any opinions on padouk for a neck? How are they on speed compared to a satin maple?
