Ok so this is the deal. I just got myself a guitar with a FR about 5 days ago. And I tend to switch a lot between Standard and Drop D.

So I was wondering if it would be possible for the guitar to stay in tune if I would only loosen the upper nut which holds the first two (thick) strings?

Thanks in advance,

the easiest way would be to purchase an EVH D-Tuna

i got a FR, its a pain in the ass, but they have fine tuners that can change the tuning without adjustment
eddie van halen used it

or the tremel-no, a system that can make ur gutiar switch back n forth between floating bridge or regular so you cna change tuning

Wait so do I have to order a complete new FR, or is this D-Tuna just a piece which I can attach to my existing one?

And another question (sorry for double post), what can I do with these round thingies on top of my FR? I noticed i can turn them and stuff, but I'm not quite sure about the purpose.

^Those are the fine tuners... Try turning them while the corresponding string rings out. You should hear it change pitch.

And if you get the D-Tuna, you'll forefeit the ability to pull up...

those are fine tuners, you can adjust tuning with them insted of undoing the lcoking nuts

the D-Tuna is a variation of that round thing
and u buy it seperately

if you need to tune to drop just unlock the nut and tune to drop D
it will take a little while to get everything perfect because it throws the other strings out of tune
and if thats too hard get a D tuna, but you wont be able to pull up if you get one
