As some of you may be aware, the prequal to the LotR trilogy is very likely (my sources could be wrong) and is set for release in 2009.

Now of course someone is needed to take the role of Bilbo and i have found the perfect candidate... Jools Holland

Thoughts? Oppinions? Diarrhea?

As an opinion for the movie, i think a lot of people are going to be terribly dissapointed. They're gonna expect another Return of the King or whatever and get.....well......a hobbit. The book was meant to be a children's piece, so i don't think it's going to meet peoples expectations. But i still hope its decent.

yeah, they should get the guy who did it in LOTR to do it in the Hobbit.

EDIT: and this movie is going to be nowhere as epic at LOTR. Is Peter Jackson directing it?
#6
but remember kiddy winkles, the guy who did it in LotR trilogy will have aged since and this movie relies on a younger looking Bilbo!

wow. i just checked out the imdb, and it turns out that you are right. i dont think peter jackson will be directing it though. he turned out to be a good director. i hope it turns out well. it would be amusing seeing a bunch of dwarves,a hobbit and a tall wizard journeying. i hope they get the same actor for gandalf though. I forgot his name.

No it is not. Simply because they fired Peter Jackson... That is just stupid. I think I'm going not see it simply because of that.

While that may be true, can you imagine any kids of today under the age of 11 trying to read it? Jesus Christ on a bike...

Besides, I read all 4 books about a year and a half ago, and thought while all were awesome, the Hobbit stuck out in my mind, though I read it last actually, best way to do it.

It's not a childrens book at all, I'd say; the writing style is quite different to the trilogy though. Better? No. Different, yes. Awesome, "hell yea".

That was such a cool book, I know its probably not going to be a great move but I'm still going to see it

Also I agree with Renka they should get the same dude that played Bilbo in the trilogy, They should use the same Guy that did Golum and (I hope) Gandalf.

Lord of the Rings is a very epic tale like Moby Dick or a War of Two Worlds, whereas the Hobbit to many is more of a fairy tale, like Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. I'm excited to see it.

Besides, a book report on the Hobbit got me an A+ in 4th grade, I've got a special bond with it .

I read it at eleven. I also read the Lord of the Rings at eleven.

Eh, a decent prequel to a not so great trilogy.

If Bilbo didn't take the ****ing ring, the whole damn trilogy would have never happened.

I mean, the whole movie involved walking. Hell, even the trees walked!

Star Wars is, and always will be the best trilogy.

Star wars is nothing compared to the Lord of the Rings. The prequel degraded it badly. I have simply one name to ruing your argument: Jar Jar Binks

I heard a long time ago that Jackson would produce and George Lucas would direct. It was just speculation, though.

Actually, in the book the ring made bilbo look the same age.

The Hobbit isn't too hard of a read. I read it as an 11 year old (and the LOtR trilogy soon after), but I consider myself a pretty good reader. I'd say it's a little less difficult than the other 3. I'm in 11th grade now, and I know some kids who probably couldn't read it as 16-17 year olds.

Anyway, the movie should be awesome. I'll definitely go and check it out. I've got to reread it before though.

Also, if they can make women look like orchs and full grown men look 4ft tall I am sure they can make him look 20 years younger.

Playing a 30 year younger Bilbo? Don't think so

Sweet about the movie though. My favourite book and it's just miles better than the lotr books!

The book is pretty crummy at the start, the middle is alright, the end is a bit of a non-entity.

The Hobbit > every Lord of the Rings book.

I wish Tolkein would have kept to the same writing style when writing Lord of the Rings as he did with the Hobbit. With the Hobbit every chapter was so gripping but with Lord of the RIngs I found myself thinking about which Subway I was going to buy during most of it.

The film will own.

That bit with the dwarves and their hats is hardly gripping.

If there was to be a remake of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 2009, would you still have Daniel Radcliffe playing Harry Potter?

Personally if you think the hobbit "sucks", question your own imagination.

About the 11 comment... I read alot of the first at 11 fine, but, this might sound a bit pretentious, many 11 year olds would rather watch x factor...

In simple terms.

Bilbo was 111 in The Fellowship of the Ring, I could be wrong but I think he's 50 in The Hobbit.

Although he didn't look 111 in LOTR, so... Yeah.

Sssh.

But he's suposed to look the same in LotR as he does in the Hobbit?

Also, there's a shot of him finding the ring at the start of the film, so they obviously managed to cast him as "young Bilbo" back then. It hasn't been that long has it?
