^just work on your theory (i.e. what chords work with what key), practice going up and down the scale in different keys, work on improvising, etc.

it'll come in time...minor pentatonics are real easy to get the hang of

Just play the pentatonic scale over and over, and improvise with it ALOT, and you will be able to tell if a solo uses it by ear.

Eric Johnson uses alot of minor pentatonics, but with more notes thrown in for color. Same with EVH.

I don't really like the minor pentatonic scale that much... it sounds to "generic" and "usual" I guess for a solo. My favorites are the good ol' natural minor scale and harmonic minor, those make you sound technical and ass-kicking instead of like everyone else.

Very true. All of the notes that are in the pentatonic scale are also in the natural minor and dorian minor scale, anyways. Also, chromatics when used tastefully can definately make a solo stand out.

Yea. Marty Friedman always uses natural minor scales in his soloes and they stand out way more than Dave Mustaine's generic pentatonic minor soloes in Hangar 18, and other songs. Dave Mustaine's soloes are boring as hell, even though he is a great rhythm guitarist.
