Listen to Fugazi, Drive Like Jehu, and At The Drive-In, then listen to Converge and Botch.

You tell me the difference.

Post-Hardcore = bad Metalcore = good, also none of those bands are post-hardcore (to the OP)
#7
post hardcore is stuff like at the drive-in and other amazing bands, metalcore is just silly.

but those bands sound like silverstein, alesana, alexisonfire, etc

Thats all pop punk. Or like I said somewhere else, some people call it popcore

Several of those bands are now mainstream rock now.

They're not talking about hardcore punk, they're talking about "hardcore." It has little in common with its roots in the '80s.

Mealcore?
You never cease to amaze me, Sally.

Post-hardcore is hardcore taken in a different direction!
Just as the *gasp!* name implies!
Hehheh isnt that funny?
(Hot Cross, Trophy Scars, On the Might of Princes, Quantice Never Crashed)

Metalcore is.. wait a minute, hold on, I have this, it's on the tip of my tongue... nah.
I lost it.
Oh wait its metal combined with hardcore.
How'd I almost forget?
(Botch, Converge, Every Time I Die, Hatebreed)
Taking Back Sunday = Sensitive Hardcore

Haha I think you have a favorite person to mess with now.

Alexisonfire and Alesana are not metalcore though. The commercial end of metalcore would be like As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, or Trivium or something like that.
#21
You're RIGHT they are metalcore.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=QpjVTTRLsMc&mode=related&search=

They might have some songs that hard harder influences but they are not metalcore.

Jesus, we know what we are talking about. We aren't the average kids you might meet in everyday life who think slipknot is hardcore. J Lock had posted enough that I can usually agree with what he is saying because he knows his stuff. Stop trying to prove yourself by name dropping and all that. Prove yourself by knowing what you're talking about.

im just saying that those bands are closer to metalcore than they are to pop-punk, omg i dont know anything!

Honestly, it's not even worth being a dick about this. There are so many misconceptions. For example many would classify Hot Cross as screamo. If you're new to this music I could see why it would be hard to not understand the genres.'.

Alternative seems like an appopriate genre name (not entirely sure what it means though)

i just call them post-hardcore man. they are posthardcore+screamo to me. and i know fugazi, hot water music, etc. are also post-hardcore.

Most screamo is close to post hardcore. Not many bands don't agree with this(Envy comes to mind, more post-rock then post-hardcore.) Doesn't work the opposite though.
