hey
this may seem like a stupid question, but i've seen a few guitarists wear sweatbands really high on their arm and actually onto the hands. i was wondering, is this them trying to look cool or does it help in anyway?

Fashion, but if you palm mute alot then i guess it could stop your hand getting a cut, but it never happens to me.

Its stops the sweat from your armpit trickling down your arm if you wear it high enough. But the main reason there worn is because you can wipe the sweat of your face without gettin your hands wet which makes playing harder plus they look pretty cool.

I've seen some people slip 'em off and slide it onto there guitars nut so that it dampens the open strings, quite lame really.
The statement below is true.
The statement above is false.

The large one are simply fashion statements... bad ones, but none the less fashion statements. Regardless of size they will prevent sweat from the forearm and wrist running onto the guitar or onto the picking hand. You really only need one... afterall, one of your hands will have gravity pulling the sweat away from the hand itself. They should really be no bigger than the standard like 3 inches or so. Otherwise, it looks rather gay- tarted.

Your hands and arms are just going to sweat anyways.

If someones hand gets cut by their guitar, it either has serious problems or they have the ****tiest hands in the world.

IDK, I did pop a string- D- and it shot itself right into my thumb... and being all curly I had to twist it out of my thumb. Gross, yes, very much so.

I think sweatbands give you a mental edge. Sort of like wearing gloves when playing football. Just wearing gloves made me feel stronger. I think the same applies to armbands, wristbands.
