Quick question! When someone says "Sphinx" to you, what do you imagine? Do you get an "image" perse of the mythical beast as it appears in Greek legends (or, if you don't know what it looks like are you simply reminded of Greek Myth) or do you think of the Sphinx in Egypt?

Egypt.

Anyways, this is one of the strangest things I've been asked in a long time. And I know strange; I am me!

To be honest I didn't even know there was a Sphinx in Greek mythology.

Hmm. I only ask beacuse when I hear "Sphinx" I think of the beast that only Oedipus can solve the riddle of. Everyone else thinks of the building.

Say whaat?

The riddle? Four legs in the morning, three by nightfall? Ringing any bells?

Egypt, because I spoke about the Egyptian sphinx in another thread not too long ago
The will to neither strive nor cry,
The power to feel with others give.
Calm, calm me more; nor let me die
Before I have begun to live.

Arguments are to be avoided; they are always vulgar and often convincing.

it's this beasty that belongs to Thera that has the head and chest of a woman, the body of a lion and the wings of an eagle. It had a riddle and if you can't answer the riddle, it eats you. In the myth (or at least one of them) it sits on the Road to thebes until Oedipus comes along and answer its riddle:

What has 4 legs in the morning, 2 in the afternoon and 3 at night?

The answer being a person. (Baby, adult, eldery with walking stick)

There's not poll option because you can't possibly think of two things at the same time like that.

At least... men can't...

Ah ok. Must of not paid attention to the fact that the Riddle of the Sphinx was a Greek story. Never really got into Greek mythology.

Wait, so you knew there was a Riddle of the Sphinx but didn't realize it was the Greek one? So you thought there were three of them?

I'm not trying to be an asshole by the way, just making akward conversation (I am bored).
#16
hmm, i tend to think of the egpytian one first.
yet, once i saw the choices i can only think of the greek one.

LOL its cool.

I only know of the riddle and not the details of the story. I just assumed it was the Egyptian sphinx that gave the riddle because thats the only sphinx I know of.

Like all men I have two brains. Only difference with me and the other men is that they're both very big.
