well my cajun friend, perhaps vous preferez la francaise?
generally speaking, the denser the wood, the brighter the sound. i imagine cypres (an awesome idea since you are from the bayou country) would probably be quite deep. if i'm not mistaken it's quite porus.
Guitars
Gibson ES-137
Epiphone Casino (w/Bigsby)
Rickenbacker 620
Epiphone Dot

If you're wondering how oak sounds, listen to Brian May. He made his Red Special out of an old oak mantelshelf.

^It was mahogany man...

Oak should be bright (more treble) I would imagine, and Cypress 'dark' (more bass, deeper mids)... The softness of the wood shouldn't hurt things too much... If you're talking about an electric guitar an Oak neck & fretboard with a cypress body would be bad ass...

Oak, god that will be expencive, well it would be over here in England., plus oak is a ring porous wood, so i dont think it would be that good for a guitar.

Do you get Ash or Cherry Where you live ?

No, it was actually oak, blockboard and mahogany veneer (read about it here ). A LOT of Brian May's tone comes from the Tri-sonic pickups, a treble booster and his amp, hence the reason why it doesn't sound particularly muddy.
