id think it would depend. if u get a licensed floyd rose, it might not help much. but something higher-end like an Original floyd might help more.

You won't get better sustain, but you will get better tuning stability because the knife edges won't be made out of cat poo.

Maybe you will get better sustain, with better materials and such but I doubt it will be very noticeable. Also, it might be hard to draw comparison after you swap out the trem.

So the only way I would really get more sustain out of the same guitar is to upgrade the pickups?

No, the ways to get more sustain are...

Don't have your action too low
Don't have old strings
Learn to vibrato
Don't scoop your mids
Play with more volume
Don't have a load of digital crap in your signal chain
Don't use a noise gate
Have a decent amp that gives you controllable feedback
Have a fixed bridge

changing pickups isn't going to make much difference.
