Not much help really, all that does is train your fingers to follow a pattern, that's not what scales are about.

You need to learn the notes on the fretboard and learn to recognise the sound of different note intervals and indeed the scales themselves. Scales are all about sound, your ears are the most important tool when learning themm, where you put your fingers is the least important thing.
