Yeah they rip it out without anaesthetic. Just put a sock in your mouth so that your screams don't disturb the other patients.
#3
^no... they will slice the side of your toe, then gently rip it out... without anestetic.

I always try and stop them before they get to that stage, stick yoru foot in warm water, pull the side of your toe accross to try and reveal where its digging in, then I try and get my fingernail underneath and just shift if slightly. Doing this a couple of times has gotten rid of any of mine but if you dont do it when they start they can get really bad, then they just rip your nail off, should have anesthesia though. However, I was advised never to watch them doing it.

lol thanx guys but seriously, i know they use anesthetic, but wwhat is the actual amount of pain i get to look forward to? i dont think mine is that bad, so they shouldnt have to rip it off, hopefully. im hopin they can just somehow trim the side thats startin to dig in.

You're going to the doctor about it?

I can assure you it won't be painful.

I've had it done a couple times, and usually the most painful part is the shot i have to get to numb my toe, one goes right in the webbing between toes thats pretty bad, but during the actual procedure you will just feel some pressure, after the the anesthetic it might hurt, it seems kinda random. And like someone said don't look because its not a pretty sight.
#12
whenever I get an ingrowing toenail I just get my dad to get a pair of scissors nd cut the part where its digging in out but last time it got infected lmao
#13
I had a procedure. The Gave my toe 4 shorts to numb it all up which actually hurt more than anything. Then they cut the toenail right down the middle and remove the part that is ingrown. From there on your toe will feel weird because its all fat from the numb stuff. It was cool watching them cut my toe nail and it not hurting. Just have to be extra careful in a public environment.

yeah i had this awhile ago, it doesnt hurt at all. Maybe the needle they give to numb your toe hurts a little, but after that you can't feel anything. I thought it was kinda cool actually, looking at your toe getting sliced open and them pulling part of your nail out, while you can't feel it at all. pretty weird. you don't have anything to worry about at all .
#17
Well my dad has ingrown toenail. He went to have a small procedure to have it corrected and it didn't hurt at all cause they put that area asleep(you're still awake however). Only bad thing is that he's had the procedure done twice and both were failures.

they put a cork in your butt for unknown reasons and proceed to rip the nail out. mm.

ok i just got back and it was really dug in there, they stuck 3 whole syringes of lidocain in my toe, then then it didnt work, so they added another one. my whole body is tingly, in an uncomfortable way. but i expected it to be worse.

Don't you guy cut your toenails? =\ Oh wait, its the Pit... Anyway, with having it removed, its basically like mini surgery if its in more then just a little bit. That part itself doesn't hurt I hear, but you're toe is going to be sore for awhile.

i had 2. the procedure doesnt hurt, they numb the toe first. it will hurt afterwards, but a little hydrocodone will fix that

Dude who the fuck wants to read about your in-grown toenail?? I'm about to go start a thread concerning the boil on my ass...I'll call it "Boil on my ass?" so you think it confuses me and I need an answer about something, but really I'm about to go the doctor and get the expert opinion...I just figured I'd let everyone on UG know what the scoop is on my fungal forest of a foot.

The first time I got it done I got anaethitised, but the doctor guy waited too long and it wore off. It was the single most painful experience of my whole life. I could see a massive pool of blood and pus congealing around where my foot had been during the operation... it's gory as hell.

I've had an ingrown toenail for ages now, I'm too scared to go get it fixed. I'm sort of hoping if I persevere through the pain it will eventually go away.

FFS get it sorted. It'll just get worse if you don't. I left mine something like 8 months till i could hardly walk, it was that bad. And it doesn't hurt when they rip it out, mine just bled like f*ck for about 3 days.

My first operation, they butchered it. It hurt like hell for 2 weeks, it got even more infected and the nail grew back on both sides. I really wanted to sue that doctor for failing at life.

Second operation, I went to a pediatrist. Simple clean operation, no pain during or after the operation.

So it really depends on the doctor.

Stories huh? I have a bit of a story, but mostly it's advice. Make sure the podiatrist you go to isn't a f*cknut.

I used to get ingrown toenails all the time, and then about 18 months ago i got one and i was fed up so i decided to seek some professional advice about the possible prevention of future annoyances.

So i get to the podiatrist, explain the situation, does he wanna listen? NOOOOOO. He just wants to cut out the current ingrown little bastard and send me on my way so he can have his goddamn lunch!

Soooooo without bothering to check for infection, which they are supposed to do, he jumps in there with his "i wish i was a real surgeon" tool kit n cuts out the ingrown toenail. Sounds like a success yes? NOOOOOOOOO

Turns out there was an infection present (remember, the one f*cky McF*cktard didn't check for?) and after cutting a gaping hole into my toe, the nailbed got infected, the pain got progressivley worse, there were a few days i couldn't walk, which sucked because my job at the time required me to walk around all day.

THEN i spent the next 12 months! 12! count 'em, on every different antibiotic known to man, had three separate cordurisations (ya know, how the burn the wound to seal it up), couldn't wear shoes had to wear (what do u crazy americans call em, flip-flops? coz here we call em thongs but i know what that is in ur country) thongs which was also a problem for my boss and i think may hav contributed to my eventual loss of that job.

AND after all that was finally done, i still have to be careful about how long i wear shoes for fr fear of the heat n moisture kickstarting the microscopic leftovers of bacteria still living under my toenail which only a few months ago finally grew back to the size its supposed to be.

So there's my story. Ladies and gentlemen, i implore you make sure your podiatrist is not a f*cknut.

p.s i'm australian, hence the whole thong/flip-flop routine up there.

Provided the doctor burns (?) the root it shouldn't grow back...I've had one side on my left big toe and two sides on my right big toe done and they're yet to grow back it's great! Plus I got a coolass mini bandage which all the girls loved.

Yes, that is how I pull chicks.
