I need some modes that sound good over modern rock music, hard driven power chords with a lot of melody. The pentatonic and major are getting to sound a little boring.

Aeolian, Dorian, Phrygian - for a minor sound
Mixolydian and Lydian - happier sounds

It really has nothing to do with genre, just how you use the particular scale. Have you tried the blues scale? That b5 can add a lot to your licks/riffs.

It's not actually about the genre, it's more of chord progressions under your hard riffs.
You should start to learn how to connect modes/scales with chord progressions.
