I picked up my guitar last week after not playing for about 4 1/2 months, and well....

i think i wanna start playing again....

i just relearned "black dog" - zeppelin, well everything but the solo....

and remembered why i havent played in so damn long....i suck.

i really would like to start practicing again and was wondering if anyone thats not to advanced could tell me what solo's they started trying to play to get better....

what i mean is what songs should i start practicing in order to get better at playing solo's.....

Maybe try AC/DC's Shook Me All Night Long if you don't know it already or
Nirvana - Sappy
Nirvana - Lake Of Fire

I don't know that you should practice solo's to learn solo's. I'd suggest learning alternate picking and sweeping, and other techniques and like everyone else says practice slow and build your speed, find a scale you like and practice it using alternate picking, and find a good arpeggio to get your downstrokes and upstrokes tight, that is my suggestion.

I just go up and down scales. Solos come easier that way, your not learning a solo your learning technique which happens to help you with any solo.

yea sorry bout not posting it in the right forum....=[

but yea,

i can hammer and pull off pretty damn good,
and can alternative pick pretty good too,

the problem is that im ready for that "next step",

but dont know what songs to play....

i like playing blues, classic rock, metal....

i can play songs like...

LAYLA - ERIC CLAPTON
SWEET CHILD O MINE - GUNS N ROSES
PURPLE HAZE - JIMI HENDRIX

and do you guys think that "im going home" by Ten Years After would be to hard to learn for someone at my level?

It depends, some people will have a hard time playing a song while others will go so far as to figure it out by ear upon first hearing it.

train kept a rollin - aerosmith. basically a bunch of aerosmith, but this in particular
maybe some of blackmore's stuff like Highway Star
van halen or ozzy stuff would be good also, such as S.A.T.O., goodbye to romance, mr crowley, you lookin at me lookin at you, hot for teacher, runnin with the devil, drop dead legs

My mind is going. I can feel it.

Mr. Crowley??

are you kidding me bro.....

i couldnt play that solo if my life depended on it, although i can play the intro and chorus...

bahahaha

but yea im surprised i didnt think of deep purple songs....

and they are one of my favorite bands....

probably my parents fault cus they took away my ipod =[[

lol. even if the stuff is too difficult, the very beginning of the crowley solo has some cool shapes, and if you get those memorized slowly, they're a fun thing to play.

-17p13-------------------18p13----------------------
|-------15-(repeat 8 X)--------15--(repeat 8x)---
|----------------------------------------------------------
|----------------------------------------------------------
|----------------------------------------------------------
|----------------------------------------------------------

|-15p12------------------17p13-----------------------------
|-------13-(repeat 8x)---------13-(repeat 8x)--------------
|----------------------------------------------------------
|----------------------------------------------------------
|----------------------------------------------------------
|----------------------------------------------------------

you could also tap them, that would be easier to play fast.

so 17p13p10, 18p13p10, 15p12p8, 17p13p8

My mind is going. I can feel it.

sweet dude. i've started feeling kind of the opposite =\
i really want to go to college for classical guitar, and maybe it's just a self-esteem problem, but i really don't think i'll ever be good enough. if i can't make it with music, i've decided on just working at walmart or guitar center for my life, since i don't plan on getting married or having a family, and that'd be enough money to support myself. idk.
