When I tune my guitar my 5th string never cooperates, on both my electric and my acoustic. I think it might be the tuner that I'm using. Its always in the tune of E or G. Its in E, I tune it up a little, and now all of the sudden its G. I don't know what to do.

That's true, but also, sonically speaking, E and G aren't that "far" apart just 1.5 steps, so depending on your tuning machines, a little can go a long way.

5th string properly is supposed to be an A.

5th string to guitar noobs (actually the 2nd string) is supposed to be a B.

You're not even right.

I know its supposed to be an A. I'm not talking about the B string. My tuner says that my 5th string is tuned to E. I tune it up a little and now my tuner says its in G when its supposed to be an A. What am I doing wrong.

....

if it says G, then tune it to an A

Is that your question??

What do i do if my A string is tuned to a G?

E F G A B C D

So you tune up from E you get G, great... then tune a TINY bit up from G you get A..
