Well, you could go for a nice hardtail Ibanez, they will feel similar to your GRG, but better.

Here are a few links to some of their hardtail models, most of which will be within your budget:

A nice RG for instance will get you most of the tones you'll want and because it's a hardtail, you won't have to deal with a trem, meaning you won't have to watch out for low quality LFRs and when changing tuning it will be a lot easier with a hardtail.

Go with a Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty.

Or

Jackson Flying V looking at what type of things you play.

If you like thin, flat, necks like on Ibanez guitars, you might not be to happy about the much fatter necks on the Epiphone.

Also, the Jackson V guitars in this price range have a low quality LFR, which isn't ideal.

Hows the Jackson DXMG? I've heard mixed reviews

I haven't tried, but from what Jacksons I have tried, it probably plays just fine.

What worries me though are the passive EMGs and the Jackson LFR.

hmph...i guess ill just go to GC and play it

Always the best idea.

In the end, no one can know for certain if they're going to like a guitar before they've tried it.

Also, even guitars made around the same time, by the same brand and that are the same model, can feel different.
