hey dudes,

been playing an acoustic for 5 years so I think it's time for my first electric now
i'm very into oasis, the beatles, and similar bands. i have several questions.

would anyone suggest against me going for an epiphone sheraton II as my first electric and why? is there anything i should make sure before i buy one? what would be a good amp to get to go with it?

thanks

I think that would be a good guitar to choose if you like those particular bands and want a similar sound. The question is, how much would you be able to spend on the amp?
#3
If you want a Beatles tone, why not get the Casino? Generally the same price as the Sheraton, and it was the guitar actually used by the Beatles (especially Lennon) from the mid 60s onward.

But yeah, the amp matters more than the guitar. Focus on that first.

That guitar would seem to suit you down to the gorund,It's also good enough to last you your whole career,Many pro bands use it.
Epi Lp Custom-->Ernie Ball VPJR-->Visual Sound Jekyll And Hyde-->Boss TU-2-->Boss Tr-2-->ISP Decimator-->Dan-Electro Reel Echo-->MXR Micro Amp-->Laney VC-30 2x10

Yeah the Sheraton II is a great guitar for stuff like that. As posted before, also consider a Casino. Just be sure to try it out before buying to check for like, setup problems and the like. The Sheraton I got happened to have a few setup problems due to all the people messing with it at my local shop. Still, very good guitar.

The only problem with the Casino is that it is a full hollowbody and prone to feedback. Sheraton is a beautiful guitar. For amps the Beatles early on used Vox (not the Valvetronix.) Don't know what they used later in their career.

No.

Rickenbacker or Gretsch + AC30 = early Beatles
Casino + Deluxe Reverb = late beatles
Strats + Deluxe Reverb = mid beatles (revolver or so)

^^you could maybe get a used fender blues junior or even a vox AC15 used for that amount
#21
hmm none of those on craigslist around where i live

what do you guys think of a fender champion 110 for $200?
#22
you should probably get an epiphone dot, and a better amp, than a sheraton and a cheaper amp...

You've got the late and mid mixed up. George and John were both using Casinos during the Revolver/Sgt. Pepper's period (though George was also using an SG of all things). John kept his Casino, but George switched over to Strats and that rosewood Tele after 1967.

Paul also used a Casino on the "Taxman" and "Drive My Car" solos, and possibly "And Your Bird Can Sing", though that's iffy.
