Hey guys. I was hoping if you could help me identify another mystery guitar. Check out this picture-

Do you guys have any idea as to the brand/model of the guitar in that picture? I know the majority of the guitar is obscured. But I’ve never seen such an odd-looking pickup before. I didn’t know they made guitars with a slanted pickup near the neckjoint.

Nobody I talked to has any clue about what kind of guitar that could be. One of my friends thinks it could be a sort of old Danelectro- or something that’s a hollow body or semi-hollow body. It must be an antique guitar- maybe something Tom Petty has played in the past. It seems like a real challenge to try to ID that guitar.

Does anyone here have any idea about the identity of that guitar? Any thoughts?

Thanks guys!

either you are gay or a real guitarist who looks at a guitar instead of a hottie

and um...i think your fried is right it does look like a Danelectro

I don't recall Dano making any guitars like that... Remember, Dano was a budget brand thta made cheap solid bodies. That said, I need to check my book on guitars, but Im not 100% what it is, but Im pretty sure its not a Danoelectro.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that may be a Fender. Starcaster?

Weren't they H-H?
#16
You are right they are HH. Just looked it up. The other Starcasters are the Best Buy/Walmart grade, I was thinking about the old Fender ones. That pickup does resemble an old Gibson low impedance, I think there was a Les Paul that had them. I've seen that darn guitar somewhere.

Its not a Dano, Dano's have lipstick pickups and second the logo on the headstock doesn't match.
edit: i forgot none of the Danelectro's have truss rod covers at the headstock.

That's odd, there's a string-retainer bar but no locking nuts.

It's there to keep the strings in the nut grooves, something usually achieved via the use of a string tree or a tilted headstock. The use of a retainer bar was also common practice way back. I, for one, would like to see it return.

Yeah, they do resemble them somewhat, but not very much when you compare them side to side. And I believe the LP you're referring to is the aptly named "Les Paul Recording Guitar" with its odd coupling of the ornate LP Custom-style headstock and the awkward cut-off pickguard, slanted, plastic-capped pickups and the hi-tech control plate on the body. A very un-Gibson-esque mixture, I think. The first time I saw it, I thought it had been customised or something. It's quite charming to look at, though.

Anyways, on with it. I have no clue what that guitar is... Where did you find the picture?

Could it be a Fender Jaguar? With single coils, soemthing like this:

Obviously this one is a bit different coloured (Like the white around switches in Jaguarpicture is black on TS picture), but it could be a possibility.

Nah, I don't think that it's like a Fender Jag...

I think it resembles more of an Epiphone Dot or some other Hollow-bodied guitars. I was thinking maybe a Gretch Hollow body or Gibson.

It's definately a framus from the pickup.

http://www.framus-vintage.de/modules/modells/instruments.php?modellID=466&katID=4627&cl=EN

looks similar to that one ... shape looks a bit more 335 though, and that looks like a bolt on joint.

NICE! i think that's it.

The headstock here is a three-per side though... Not a Fender-ish 6 on one side...

I think that it's probably a Framus though, just a different model. Interesting find.

Great chick too, at least in the picture.

I have a feeling it's some obscure 60's brand like a Kay or something

EDIT: and I know I'll get tanned for this, but personally I think the chick's kinda weird looking
