I have £200 to spend on a new amp. Any recommendations? I like the idea of the Line 6 Spider III 75w, because of the presets it has, plus I played my ibanez through it in the shop and it sounds brilliant. I'm only on a Fender Frontman 15R atm, with a Boss ME-50 pedal, and I'm getting tired of painstakingly changing every dial when I want a different sound (I play a wide variety of music).

Is the Spider III 75w worth getting?

BTW, I'll be using this amp in my room and for small gigs at college and bars.

And no, I haven't been gigging with my 15w I borrow my mate's flexitone for that.

You'd do better in the long run to get a valve amp, probably secondhand at that price. What kind of music do you play?

Don't get a Spider over 30w, and even then only use that for practice.

Why don't you just keep saving for an amp you'll never have to change? Instead of buying amp after amp after amp which would be more expensive than necessary in the long run.

I'd like to do that, but I really don't have the cash at the moment being a student.

I am also aware I will get flamed for mentioning Spider III in these forums

well, the spider will sound like complete ass at a gig... so definitely do not go with that.
how long have you been playing? it's never too soon to get a start with good tone.

despite their recent fiasco... look into a laney VC15/30 or LC15/30
Gibson SG Standard + 18volt EMG-81 & 85
Mesa/Boogie Mark IV + Recto 2x12

Well keep saving, stick with whatever you have unless it's broken or something, and if it gets broken, repair it or whatever and just stick with what you have. Save, save and save. I can't see no point in buying a new SS amp.

Well, it's a bit knackered since my mate decided to play his K-5 5 string ibanez bass through it whilst drunk, at max volume with all the knobs to 10.

LC15 is like 169gbp, VC is a little about 200gbp I believe.

EDIT: Links from GAK

LC15- http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/lc-15/9545
LC15R- http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/lc-15r/383
worth the extra 20gbp IMO

VC30 1x12- http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/vc30-112/380

My amp is for sale on the internet again! Should suit you perfectly, I'm sure there are some sound clips hanging around on the forums here; it's an Ashdown Fallen Angel FA60dsp.

what type of music do you play? depending on what you play, it might be worth waiting for the peavey windsor studio... it should be under or around £200 when it's released (january).
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.
