i've been thinking about using a POD or some other amp simulator into the PA instead of a real amp so there isn't so much equipment to haul around. i know meshuggah does this, but do any other famous guitarists do this kind of thing?
#2
i don't think so, and i think meshuggah had it custom done by line 6, not just one of the processors

Hmmm, I know lots of famous artists that use PODs, xtlive or rack, However, not too many that just use them straight into the PA. Mostlikely there is a tube power amp going on somewhere.

In Flames. And their tone on Colony is amazing.

I'm not sure if they used them on their albums. I'm fairly certain they've used them live/recently, though.

EDIT:

Sleep Terror guitarist Luke Jager uses a pod with a VHT poweramp. I know Kataklysm use Line 6 as well, but that's the Vetta II head.

Lenny Kravitz. Saosin used them live for a while. But the pods that pros use are gonna be a lot more expensive than the ones you're gonna be getting

^Huh? Line 6 don't make custom pods with better modelling or something. The professionals that use them have the exact same pods that you can buy in a store.

^that's what I was thinking. It's all listed on the line 6 website what they use.

The only guitarist with a signature line 6 processor that I know of is Dave Mustaine.

i saw eisley play tonight. i had a chance to talk to their guitarist chauntelle last time they came around (about a year ago), i told her about my rig (the line 6 pod xt live).

i show up tonight, what does she have on the floor? line 6 pod xt live.

she had that, and a couple of pedals and a/b boxes for her numerous guitars, into a fender amp.

Hmm, none of the suggestions so far can be considered, since he's asking for artists that use the POD or similar straight into the PA. Maybe Kravitz though.

They used the Pod in Come Clarity. If you noticed live when they play a song from CC the distortion is exactly the same as it is on the album!

The guys from Meshuggah use the POD XT Pro, or at least they did for a long time, I'm sure of it.
And August Tidemann (ex- Arcturus, Tritonus) and Ihsahn (Emperor, and solo) also do. I really don't understand why so many people say that PODs are crap. You can get any sound you want with a single unit (and with very good, close to the real thing, quality), what else would you need?
