My friend who is too lazy to come on here himself asks:

'What amplifies a PA?'

Those are his exact words. If that's a really stupid question, don't flame me for it, I'm just the middle man.

Microphones to a mixer to speakers? That's a basic outline of how its set up I believe. You're question is worded weird.

mixers have a preamp, which amplifies it for the power amp, which may or may not be a part of the p.a. system, which is outputted to speakers at the volume set on the mixer and power amp stages.

The amplifier... if it's a big PA rig they usually have separate power amps, and if it's a smaller all-in-one, a power amp section. It's not unlike a guitar amp, just designed for flat response with no tone-changing circuitry.
If you could blow up the world with a flick of a switch,
Would you do it?

If you could make everybody poor just so you could be rich,
Would you do it?

With all your power,
What would you do?

No, I mean my friend. I'm not the vocalist, so I really couldn't care less. If you don't believe me, he's acousticfenrir.

Anyways, I appreciate the responses and hopefully he'll understand them...

there are two kinds of mixers.
powered, and unpowered. powered, are well, powered, they contain a power amp in them. these re generally the lowest powered of p.a.'s, and have the smallest amount of inputs and feature.
unpowered require and exteranal power amp(s). these range from small ones the fll out 2,000 watt+ systems, with more inputs then youll ever need.

if you end up with any specific questions about getiting and setting up a p.a., dont be afraid to pm me. id be happy to help.
