Hi, i've been looking around the internet and seen some dodgy rankings of the people that are good at guitar and are in the top 20 and things. e.g. 11th curt cobain
12th carlos santana

Heres my opinion and i like to see urs

1. Jimi Hendrix - [Jimi Hendrix experiance] always and forever (R.I.P)
2. Eric Clapton - [The yardbirds,Solo] Just class
3. Dimebag Darrel - [Pantera, Damageplan] Amazingly fast, inventive and superbly influential. (R.I.P)
4. Jimmy Page - [Led zeppelin] Excellent, inventive
5. Steve Vai - [Solo] So good, excellent, brilliant to watch.. genius
6. Carlos Santana - [solo] Calm music, with excellent chilled out solos.
7. Alexi Laiho - [Children of Bodom] Soooooooo good, class, excellent riffs, fast
8. Joe satriani - [Solo] This man is outstanding, must watch on youtube, so good.
9. Ben.B.King/David Gilmour
10. Chuck Schuldiner - [Death] Amazing guitarist, plays little solos in the songs and riffs that are imense.
11. John Petrucci - Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment
12. Marty Friedman - [Megadeth 2nd Guitarist] In my opinion better the Dave mustaine, this man is so cool and class.
13. Randy Rhoads - [Ozzy osbourne] The man was a class, exquizid, superb guitarist R.I.P
14. Ritchie Blackmore - Deep Purple, Rainbow, Blackmores Night
15. Zakk Wylde - [Ozzy osbourne] Also a genious.
16. Jeff Beck - [The yardbirds] Such an influence on guitarists still today, the man is a legend.
17. michael angelo - faster then anyone iv seen, and good at it also
18.Muddy Waters - how good is this guy?
19. Michael Hedges - just seen this guy on youtube.. amazing
20. Yngwie Malmsteen - Rising Force, Solo

where's none of the above or the your opinions are stupid and worthless options?

Lists like these are not a good idea because nobody will be able to settle on a list. For example, just looking at the first few, Dimebag was not 'amazingly fast'.

Everyone knows Marty is a better guitarist than Dave. Also what does 'exquizid' mean?
The DNA results show that Jeremy Kyle is a nob.

I think that the only thing people will ever agree on overall in a majority vote is that jimi hendrix was the best.

I think it is redundant and ridiculous you brought this up. It is redundant for the fact that I have seen countless posts and articles on this exact topic. It is ridiculous because ranking this different styles of guitarists is inaccurate, and I believe there is no way to accurately rank such a thing. All these players and more are the epitome of guitar hero/god/or whatever other nice adjective you use to describe them. They are different though and to try to compare them to each is a futile attempt made by people who don't truly appreciate these people's contribution to music as a whole.

And there are tons of great acoustic players you didnt even consider that should be up there. Ever hear of TOMMY EMMANUEL. And there are also tons, and i mean tons, of classical and jazz guitarist that would reconstruct that entire list you created.

no, just no man. no frucisante, so extremely overrated

I put Hendrix for his influence mostly. Clapton's a dick, and although I love Dime, I do think his death gave him more 'points' I suppose as a guitarist. I'd put Zakk above him, and definitely Randy Rhoads, just 2 . . .

is another amazing piece by tommy emmanuel, and if you like him check out Don Ross and Andy Mckee. Completely original inventive music. Actually any guys from the CandyRat record label are completely amazing acoustic players.

Now I like Green Day, but care to explain?

I don't really have top 20 guitarists, but at the moment my favorite is Mike McCready.

Mind telling me why clapton is a dick?

And also, on 2nd thought, at the risk of sounding like an elitist prick you should delet this thread and not make another until you've been here a while so you know the place. Honestly, a guitar forum that's what . . . 5 years old? And you don't think this thread has been done before?

Also, what Lumpelope said is spot on. Especially when you're calling it 'all time greatest' guitarists. I don't want to sound pedantic but have you heard every guitarist ever? If it were called 'my favourite' top 20 all time guitarists, then fair enough. But then it would get closed. But that would be a good thing. I'm now confused .

why do we always have to have the exact same guitarists? Just shows how original we are as a group...

Well a mate of mine's old guitar tutor went to see him once, and went early to get a good spot. He waited for 6 hours or something in the pissing rain, and then a limo turned up and Clapton got out with George Harrison. This guy asked for Clapton's autograph, who got right in his face and went ''Fuck off!''.
That's why, IMO, he's a dick. I know a lot of people have probably done similar things before, but when you hear about it from someone you know it just makes you think, wow . . . what a dick . . . if you get me?
