Power chord is power chord and over.
You could try some variations:

E------5
B------8
G------7
D-5--7-5
A-7--5--
E-5--5--


Basically some added notes to typical power chord.

the first one is not a powerchord. It is R P5 m7.
The third one is also not a powerchord. It would be had you left it at 5 - 7 - 8 (G5), but adding the 5 on E makes it it R P5 M9. hence, also not a powerchord.

But if you arpeggiate that progression, it sounds ok imo. You can change the note on the A string while keeping the D open there. Maybe as a standalone chord it is pretty useless, but in context it can be good imo. The doubling effect can be good, like in:

I think using the same note twice in a chord can sound quite nice. If one is an open string, it will have a different sound, and it's fun to play around with, especially when fingerpicking.
