On the Marshall Plexi and the Marshall 2061X and all of those vintage heads, why does it have 4 inputs?

You know it's a dumb question when you misspell 'dumb'.
You jump the channels to get more gain.

I used to jump the old Fenders and others like that all the time. It only seemed to add about 5% (subjective) to the gain but it was noticable. Back in my beginner days it was a useful trick, made a cheap practice amp (back then they were all tubes) sound a lot better.
