I just had a band practice that went ok, except for one thing: It was just me on guitar/vocs and a drummer (or drums, duh).

The bass player was at least kind enough to tell me an hour before that he couldn't make it but he had a good reason. The lead guitarist on the other hand, just didn't show up, i tried phoning him and texting him when he was 15 mins late, just to make sure he wasn't lost or anything, but no reply...

I can't tell if he's taking me seriously or whether he's just taking the piss. he asked me to tab out EVERYTHING for him, i went to the trouble of actually doing it, just for him to not bother coming to the practice.

i know plenty of guitarists, he'll be easy to replace. Do you think i should just ask him where he was and then just not invite him to the practices?

Ask him where he was. If he had a good reason, tell hi, he should've told you. If he didn't have a good reason, replace him. If he claims he had a good reason - like he was at the dentist and couldn't make it - but keeps missing practices, don't tell him he's been fired, but fire him secretly and start practising with other guitarists until you feel you have a line-up that is good. Then, tell him he's been replaced.

Nah man forget all that garbage, tell him straight up that it shows incredibly bad attitude and you will be looking for someone else, unless he was shot or something its not good enough

i would have just been like "i dont think its gonna work bro" as soon as he asked you to tab out every song ;/ he obviously needs alot of practice before hes ready for a serious band

That is a very good point, ask him for the tabs back. And if he sayd he hasn't learnt them yet, say that's the point, he should've.

Unless he got a tooth knocked out or something sudden, dentists generally require appointments, so he would have known in advance he could have made it.

Anyway, yeah, the band I was in was trying to reform for a while, but when the other remaining member kept not doing things (ie scheduling practices he said he would, or even showing up for practice) I just called it quits on the whole thing. It's not worth your effort if you have to string someone along. Especially if you know plenty of replacements.

yeah just fire him, chances are if he doesn't show commitment right away then he's not gonna stick with it. Plus you know so many other guitarists anyway that it won't matter.

he's been in other bands a lot before so has the experience, i think he was just wasting my time. he's a good guitarist, but you can never tell if he's taking the piss or not, and i guess thinking about it, he was.

typically, i can't contact him on the phone and won't see him until i go back to college on monday. i've emailed him just to find out why he didn't turn up, i'm sure if he's going to be childish about it which i'm almost expecting, he'd rather reply to an email than explain to me in person at college.

also, because i play guitar too, it won't hold us back much even if we can't find a replacement
