As soon as my friend snatched the guitar from me, and did a massive 3-4 step drop dive bomb when I tried twisting the whammy handle.

EDIT: I didn't play guitar at the time, I should add.

A long time friend (now ex-friend) had invited me over, and I saw his guitar, and he was a newbie, but he knew some songs, and I wanted to hold his guitar.

THAT'S when I learned m whammy bar lesson.

I rarely touch mine, and if I do it's very gently. I knew it before i played, because of guitar videos and such.

Lol, I kept screwing it in further and wondering why it didn't do anything. I thought I had to pull it up and down(like across the strings) rather than towards and away from my the guitar.

To answer the question like 10 minutes.

5 seconds? I tried turning it at first, but it really shouldn't take a person long to figure out something isn't working.

I figured it out... RIght after I started playing with it. I twisted it around and stuff, but once I realized that it wasn't working, I figured out how to use it.

I asked the guy in the store if it was a good guitar, and he ripped out a crazy little solo on it, using the whammy bar several times.

Handed it back and said it sounded pretty solid to him. So I figured it out when I was trying to imitate him later that day.

I don't have a whammy bar

some are made to be pushed all the way and others are not....some guitars will go way out of tune of you do that but others like the ibanez guitars are made for it.

my guitar doesnt have any Whammy bar either....but I'm fine with a whammy pedal.
#23
haha it hought you had to turn a whammy bar...then i picked up guitar hero and fell in love...

I remember perfectly. About 2 years ago at my friend's house. I took his strat and was messing with it, I'd only been playing about a week. And I figured out you had to either push down or pull up a tiny bit to change the pitch. Before then, I thought you only had to wiggle the bar back and forth to do it.

#26
Sadly... a month. I kept trying to twist/rotate the bar around lol. I was really scared to pull up and down cuz i thought it would break it, so i never tried it until my friend showed me.

... but I'm a bassist, so at least I've got an excuse

Couple of minutes. I've unscrewed it now as i don't use it at all.

Haha, oh man. At least several months. The only reason I figured it out was because I was playing guitar hero for the first time ever at my friend's house, and the whammy bar didn't actually twist, so I figured you had to push it down.

Then when I got home I was all "Hay, I wonder...", and figured it out.

It makes me feel good to know that I wasn't the only idiot who thought you had to twist it to make it work.

Bought the first day, I screwed in the bar and tried to pull back on it first and noticed it didn't want to go that way but made the strings give off a higher noise so then i pushed it down and saw the strings vibrate slowly. That day was spent hitting the low E and pushing down the bar thinking I was sooooooo cool.
