So I want to start recording music with my band. I just want to be able to like plug in my guitar into the PC and then play while recording. Then listen to it again but with the singer and with a mic. so he can get it down when the time is right....

And I dont want a tape recorder where I have to record everything at once

Anyone know what might be a good thing to do this is? Thanks

You best take this to the recordings thread, but if you have a PC you should try Audacity. It's pretty good for the price.
ok, yeah. my name is silly because I signed up when I was 13.

You'll need a multitrack DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)...Cakewalk, Traction, or Ableton's supposed to be quite good...obviously get the consumer versions. Audacity should be used to finish a track...if you use it to record, you'll get very frustrated very quickly.

Then you should get an interface to your guitar. Do you want a direct interface (where you use amp models...think Line6's Toneports) or do you want to mic the amp and get more or less a truer sound (then get a USB mic preamp like this)?
