Well, electric guitar is easier to learn than acoustic, so start with electric. A first guitar will probably be a stratocaster copy, with a basic beginners practice amp. When you are more confident with your guitar, get a slightly better amp...just one that looks good to you. Then get a better guitar...yet again, one that you like the look of.

The extra advice is get guitar lessons. If you are at school, you should be able to get a weekly free lesson from school - I did. Also, get a Teach Yourself Guitar book - The X Guitar series is good - and start learning from their.

I'm not 100% sure I answered your question, but I think I did.

1. both would be best, but i think electric is much more fun.
2. a guitar, an amplifier ?
3. try to learn songs by ear, is much better then checking tabs.

Oh yeah, get used to hearing the difference between major and minor chords/scales/songs. That comes in handy.

1. Basically, what you want to play. Since you'd like to play electric guitar, start playing electric guitar. It's also easier.

2. Well, basically, amp, guitar, cable, pick. So, mainly amp and guitar. Most beginners get a starter kit I guess, which comes with a (usually low quality, some of them are ok) guitar and a crap amp. I started with a Microcube, which (although it costs more) is a lot better than what you get bundled with starter kits. With the guitar, it's best if you get a guitar you like to play and which sounds ok to you.

3. Lessons = good. Also, I can't tab anything by ear, but you should learn it because it's very useful. Also, theory = good. Good songs > mindless shredding.

Start off learning slow songs and average speed songs...if a song is fast, you probably won't have the technical ability to play it yet

Sorry, I keep getting more ideas, so I will keep posting

When I first started playing guitar, I learned a bunch of TV & video game theme songs. Most are pretty simple and will help you develop your skills.

If your playing and your arm starts to hurt, stop playing.Chances are, your technique is bad...this can lead to tendonitus and other bad things. I think that's all my ideas used up now
