i saw some kid at my schools battle of the bands that was powering his amp (200 watt bass amp) with what looked like 2 car batterys..has anyone done this or know how exactly its done???

Car batteries are around 12 volts each, so two of them in series is 24 volts- not enough to power an amp by any means.

not to mention the fact that batteries are DC while a wall socket is AC. basicly, it may work, but it isnt a good idea and i would not recomend trying it.

thats 12 volts dc not ac. a car battery runs a stereo in a car why couldnt it power an amp?

you could get a couple 12v car batteries and wire them in parallel, then hook them up to a 120vAC inverter to turn your battery power into something you could use...

really, its not worth the trouble, you would probably be better off getting a generator and a power conditioner if you need to go portable...
