alrite so for the last few years ive been using solid state amps and i finally got myself a tube amp, i was just wondering if there are anythings i should know about tube amps like maintainance wise or just not breaking it...im kinda clueless when it comes to tube amps, also what does a precence knob do??

for starters, what amp is it?

presence is kinda like a second treble control, except it adjusts frequencies higher than those on the treble knob. try turning it down, and then back up. "presence" really defines it.

if your amp has a standby switch, keep it in standby for at least 30 seconds before playing your amp. that means flip the power on, keep the standby switch on standby for however long, then flip the standby switch to "on" or its opposite position. that allows your tube filaments to warm up before having full voltage run across them, therefore increasing the life of them.

If you hear a loud pop noise and then no sound... turn off your amp

You'll need to replace the tubes when they burn out, don't play with your amp when they burn out.
