Hi folks,

I don't know if this post will become a thread, but here it goes:

Name some popular songs or pieces that start off with a solo bassline--a song that if you heard the first 3 seconds of it, you'd know the song outright. It has to be strictly bass only--no strings, no drums, no guitars, no synth pads--just bass.

Here's my selections:

1. "NIB" by Black Sabbath
2. "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" by Primus
3. "My Girl" by the Temptations (actually, it has a kick drum under the bass, but...)
4. "Barney Miller Theme"
5. "Higher Ground" by RHCP (originally Stevie Wonder)
6. "Descargas--Como Mi Ritmo no Hay Dos" by Israel Lopez (Cachao)
7. "Portrait of Tracy" by Jaco Pastorius
8. "Don't Give Up" by Peter Gabriel (played by Tony Levin)

That's all I can think of for now. If you can add to the list, please do so! This would make a nice compilation of tunes.
Jaco de Lucia.

The Zen of Duh: How low can you go? Zero Hertz. That's the lowest anyone can go. Just turn off your bass amp and not play.

Q-tuner PUs (0X0 configuration) and HG Thor Labs for the best fretless bass tone. MWAH FACTOR!!!

"Hysteria" by Muse
"I am a Cloud" by Boy Hits Car (It has vocals over it though...)
"Dancing in the Moonlight" by Thin Lizzy (There is a little diddly doo before the drums kick in behind the bass line)

The bass at the beginning of "Wicked End" by Avenged Sevenfold is accompanied by drums, so I don't think that counts.

Somebody mentioned "Like the Angel" by Rise Against already. I love that song. Good call.
