i just got my first twelve string and im having a hard time tuning , are the lower gauge strings tuned at the same octave or an octave higher? if that makes sense ,i dont want to over tighten, any help would be great thanks

Standard E - E an octave Higher
Standard A - A an octave Higher
Standard D - D an octave Higher
Standard G - Standard G
Standard B - Standard B
Standard e - Standard e

So the G, B and e strings are all tuned at the same pitch . If that makes sense

What johnny said, and watch out with the higher strings, they snap really fast.
Take your time to tune.

what johnny said except the two G strings are actually an octave apart, not the same. the thinner of the two G strings should be tuned one octave higher.
