Hi Guys,
I'm am looking for a very versatile first tube amp. My playing covers many different types of styles(from very clean to full-on metal). My Price range is anything under $2,500 Australian. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

sure the ac30 wouldnt do metal well, but it'd do most others well, but i spose on a budget like that, forget my suggestion lol.

Check out Blackstar's valve distortion pedals. They've been getting some great reviews here in the uk. I've got the HT Dual DS-2. It does a good all round clean/crunch/distortion thing. Don't think you'd get a metal tone out of it but I think they do other models. Might be cheaper than buying a whole new tube amp.

What do you guys think of the Mesa Express 5:50?

The express is alright but not THAT great. Aparently the F series was better but i've never tried one. And you'd be buying used, and i know what its like in AUS to get used Mesa's. I'd say maybe a Carvin V3?

The F series got discontinued didn't it?

ENGL Screamer/Blackmore/Savage? Not sure what they're like pricewise compared to a Mesa, certainly the last two may be pushing it.

Deffinatly worth concidering though.
