okay i am having trouble thinking about this. (do not know if in right fourm so if not sry)

im a song writer/muscian.

i wanna create a demo.

i want the demo to have acoustic guitar, piano, and vocals

i will be writing lyrics, playing guitar, and piano, and singing.

i do not wanna use my name for a band title.

do i count my self as solo artist or band?

i know a lot will say solo artist but im woundering if people get signed if they call them self a band name and they are just the members until they get signed and they get real muscians like james blunt did but he still uses his name.

an example would be the nightwatchman

He is actually tom morello, of RATM and audioslave, but he plays all the instruments

EDIT: Oh and btw to answer your questions, he is a solo artist, not a band.

Oh yeah, and if guitar hero got you into the guitar? you're really playing for the wrong reasons.

there is no wrong reason to play a guitar, except for world enslavement and extermination of certain races, but those guys never make it big anyway.

duno it wouldnt be using your real name. u could get someone to play piano for you and call yourself a band

actually, i didn't read the last part of your post,

a great example of what you are doing is Dave Matthews Band.

Dave Matthews started out doing everything on his own, and after he signed to RCA and began touring, he hired a couple guys to play the instruments while he sang. He still does the recording on his own though.

Yes he was not original and called it Dave Matthews Band, BUT, you can do the same thing and give yourself a random band name.

Yes you would be a band.

I know this contradicts what I last posted, but I think what I'm trying to say, is you can be a band or a solo artist, whatever you want.

no drums because i do not know how to play drums and i do not want to go all out and make it sound bad because i do not play drums.

Hire a session drummer then, problem sorted, or find someone who plays and be a two-man band...

I'm pretty sure that you can program drums in some programs like Cubase or even Guitar Pro (but then u'll have to record out of guitar pro and it mite sound a bit weird) My mate's used Cubase to program drums for his music exam piece for his GCSE's a while ago

Richard James calls himself Aphex Twin. I know it's not the same type of music, but the point is, you don't have to go by your name.

I'm doing the same thing, actually. Nine Inch Nails and Five For Fighting I can think of that do the same thing. It's really not that uncommon. Consider yourself a solo artist in regards to studio work, and as a band when performing live. (Assuming you get live bandmates to fill out the sound while performing.)
