maybe you can't use it? a long glass slide, the thicker the better.

When i play with the shot glass, it gets all out of tune, not the guitar, the notes im playing
and when i do slide it it grabs all the other strings, so it sounds horrible

Slide is pretty tough to play well, regardless of what you use.

that's not slide guitar. its just rubbing ur slide on ur strings.

when it goes out of tune, you're not positioning the slide right. it can go anywhere on the strings. when it's the right intonation, u stop there. if ur not too great with pitches, u might need to look at the frets. most of the time, the notes are right above the frets (not where u usually push down with ur finger).

when ur slide is touching the other strings, yes it wounds horrible. thats why u play with ur fingers, and using other fingers to mute the strings ur not playing.

^ +1. think of a slide as a fret. normally when you press down with your fingers, the string is pulled tight over the fret (which is the little metal bar, not the bit of wood) and sounds there, not where your finger is.

on a fretless guitar your fingers have to do all the work. with a slide a similar effect takes place and so you have to be very accurate

no. you can play in E standard.

Open E is common, but not required.

what the hell are you talking about?

you do not have to push down. that is the same as playing guitar with ur frets with a slide on ur finger.

slide guitars give you infinitely many notes. you lightly get the slide in contact with the strings, mute the other strings, and pick it and slide.

just for curiosity since you have a lamb of god avatar. do you have ur gain up?

Any slide will do - it's more likely due to you playing on a normally setup guitar. For slide to sound good you need a high action and heavier strings.

You want something which is narrow, so a beer bottle or shot glass won't work very well. Just go and buy a proper slide. I use glass and brass; glass sounds warmer.

^^ what steven said, high action, i forgot this was freebird for a while and though it was going to be on an acoustic, you will need to raise the action otherwise it'll just be like barring the strings with your finger
