I think you missed out on 12's. I use 12's

I think that in Aus, D'Addario's tend to be about the best value for money too. And if you cann afford 80bucks. Buy a 10set, they end up being pretty cheap and you get a free tuner too, and everyone loves tuners. If not spend something like 35 and get a 4 pack or something

I'm using D'Addario Phosphor Bronze 12s (Light). Pretty bright sort of sound.

On a side note, I think Epiphones (I've got one myself) usually come with 10s. I could be wrong.

Yeah, I use 12 guage D'addario PBs as well - well balanced but still light enough for intricate lead playing.

I imagine the Epi comes with 10s or 11s, the manufacturers often put lighter strings on to make the guitar seem more playable in stores...

This.

I like D'addario EXPs and Elixir Nanowebs.

I use Martin 12's, I picked 13 though, cause 12 isnt there. I'm thinking of using a lighter gauge from now on anyway.

And you're obviously here because you fancy Phill.
Phill is a very attractive guy...

"I'm so tempted to sig that, Phill" - Sig it then

Unless otherwise stated, assume everything I say is in my opinion.

If you want a brightish sort of sound, go for a lighter gauge, i.e. 11's/12's.

D'addario EXP's are pretty good.

no way dude. D'Addario EXP all the way. 10 gauge. They have bright tone, sleek feel and they last long. (Real easy on begginers) If you are one I would recommend these strings. But do you know how to change them?

.10s are too light to drive the soundboard of the guitar well.

Nearly all (i haven't seen an exception yet, but there could be) guitars come factory strung with .12s. They will sound best with at least .12s on them. I wouldn't go any lower than .11s.

I think I've always used .13's out of pure ignorance. I guess that's a good excuse to not get more than a semi-tone out of a bend. Anywho, upon trying to figure that out, I've come upon a question - what is a slow string? Is it just that they're so grimy your fingers get stuck?

I have 12s on my Alvarez but want to change to lighter gauge. If I switch to gauge 11 or 10 do I have to do a setup on the guitar i.e. adjust the truss rod, etc. ?

Thanks

Don't know what gauge i'm using cause my acoustic is just 2 months old and haven't changed strings since i bough it. Although, i think is have to be a heavy gauge, cause i can't bend the G string to 2 semi-tones, i mean, i bend it like 1.5cm and still getting a semi-tone higher.
Besides being a guitar player, I'm a big fan of the guitar. I love that damn instrument. Steve Vai

I use .012 now.

I've been using .010 before, and after I moved to .012 one question came to my head: why .012 are called light gauge strings? I think .010, .011 should be called light, .012 - medium, and .013, .014 - heavy gauge. It's just my opinion

That would never work because it actually makes sense. The 12's I use are labeled as mediums, though.

who actually uses 14s? I usually use 10s or 11 out of ignorance (my local store usually only sells 11s or lower anyways). How does the tone change as the gauge goes up? I've never really experimented with that before.
