So a friend of mine and I got in to an argument about vocal effects. What is the most commonly used term for a vocal effects/processor thing?

Oh, and I'm not sure if this is the right forum since this isn't really a guitar question.

I don't know what kind. I don't usually do vocals, just this kid was telling me all these stupid terms for vocal effects units and I'm pretty sure he was being a moron and making them all up.

I don't remember exactly, but I'm not trying to figure out specific names of units, I'm trying to find generic terms for "vocal effect thingy."

well with the state of music today the most common effect is that pitch correction thing. it makes bad singing a bit better and polishs up good singing.
it also makes for stupid hiphop stuff (i.e. T-Pain)
