It's about a dream/trip Hendrix had. Pretty much it.

Hendrix claimed that it wasn't, but it's definitely open to interpretation.

lol

Yeah it's drugs

Its about drugs

or if its not, he was probably on drugs when he wrote it, so **** knows what its about
#9
No, its not drugs. According to something I read, it was from a dream he had.

He was on a beach and everything was a foggy purple haze. And "Kiss this guy" was a joke he had when he played woodstock.
#11
i thought it was "kiss the sky"

but its probably about something he saw in his head while on drugs. or something he was hallucinating ha.

It's also a type of LSD, both are named after the song.
#17
i think it was the opposite way^^. the buds from the purple haze strain are "purple" and there was a lot...A LOT of weed at woodstock. if anything, he named it

Rolling Stone had a big issue about Hendrix a couple of years back, and in it they quoted Hendrix as saying that it was never about drugs, was originally 8 minutes long (maybe, it was a lot longer than it is now), and contained the lines "Jesus Saves" in it. Music history is the only source of information I'll trust coming from that garbage rag, but they've not reason to skew their information on that one.
#23
im pretty sure its about marijuana, since he says "purple haze all in my eyes", you dont get LSD in you're eyes? you get marijuana smoke.

also the whole song is about being stoned, "Lately things just dont seem the same
Actin funny, but I dont know why", seems pretty obvious to me?
#24
purple haze is weed soaked in LSD and its sm good ****!
try smoking some then listen to the song and maybe u will work it out
#25
you should read the new issue of guitar world... its got an amazing article about jimi and his addiction

I'm pretty sure the song has to do with drugs.

Literally ...the song is about a guy that falls in love with a woman.
He's so in love with her that he cant focus on anything.
The poor guy doesnt even know what direction hes going
or if hes happy about it or not. He knows it's a problem but
he just cant help it. He sees purple haze (purple fog or blurry
vision were everything is outlined in purple). He knows hes
acting wierd but he just cant help it. Its obvious to him that
she put some kind of spell on him.

Hendrix did alot of blues..down in some parts of the delta country they believe
in witchcraft. It would be understood in the song.

Obviously...he's high as a kite and expressed it in an artistic and acceptable way. lol

the woman is just a metaphor...

In the original purple haze lyrics it was about a near death experience...

purple haze ..(jesus saves )......the man in this version saw
fetus' waiting to be born...on the edge of time
floating through space..their breath blowing through his mind..
up on the hill he saw a thousand crosses...

that was the end of the writing they scanned for the book i have..

the man saw all of this prolific stuff in the purple haze that engulfed him..
Jesus brought him back..

I smoked a "LOT" of weed back in the day. Never heard it called "Purple Haze"
I have also done a lot of acid back in the day. A type of window pane was called purple haze.
Window pane was gelatin with lsd in it. Lots of people took it by placing it under their lower eye lid. Coincidence? I think not. At the time Jimi was under a lot of pressure for purportedly advocating drug use. I'm sure he lied. So did everybody else that heard his explanation back in 71. Was a very big "Ya right" moment.

No. Hendrix was synesthetic (sp?) and mixed colour and sound. He saw the 'hendrix chord' that he uses in the song as a 'purple haze'. Not as cool as all the drug stories, but the song is about a guitar chord.

Its about a certain kind of (apparently) really good acid that they had a ****load of at his first big festival in the US.
I believe in Rock and Roll. Can I get an Amen?
