Okay, first of all, I tried this in the GG&A, and I got nothing.

Okay, so when it comes to amplifying vocals for just, say, a practice space, what does the mic plug into? A vocal amp? PA? Could someone please give me a step by step process on where the vocals go after they go through the mic? Thanks a lot.

Just use an instrument amp, or
PA (mixer[amp] + speakers)

depends on the practice space and how loud the amps and drums are. Generally if your playing loud enough to be heard with the drummer (say about 1/2 power on a 100 watt) then you'd probably want something like a keyboard amp. I used to use one and it worked beautifully. loud than that then i would say a PA

PAs are somehow meant for that.... although in stadiums they are essential for amplifying just about everything....

It really depends on the band and amount of money coming in, some bands that are successful use a PA system they have, other lesser known bands use keyboard amps, or old guitar amps, the latter being not as good.

Are you pondering what I'm pondering pinky?

Pinky
I think so, Brain, but where would we buy rubber pants at this hour?

I use a PA system, and it's a nightmare.. way too much stuff to buy and organise.
mind you, when we bought the stuff we were n00bs so we just thought we needed a speaker and a power amp.

i'd say use a keyboard amp unless you really need a PA

if i needed to amp vocals. i would pick up a yamaha stagepass PA system. maybe something used, just to save a little cash.

using a guitar amp is passable in a garage setting, provided you can put the amp far enough out in front of the singer, to tame the feedback.

keep in mind im not a huge fan of bands buying PA systems.
i really think if someone is the vocalist then that's their amp to buy.

a PA system is just
mics into --> powered mixer---> speakers.
or mics---->mixer----> powered speakers
or mics---->mixer and power amp---> speakers.

something needs to power it.

imo, if u're going to sing, then pop for the amp. cause a band is like a marriage.

if u're not committed into buying the stuff urself then, u arent committed to the band.
plus, it makes for easy separation should the band break up.

yeah, i know it's expensive.
so if the guy is really trying to save, then until he does, use an old amp in the garage, and a pa system supplied by the venue, should u manage to gig.

^yeah they are as expensive as PAs and you wont get as many watts.
they are fine to use if u already have one, but no reason to buy one unless u play keys.
