my band are paying our school's cabaret in about 7 weeks, and we currently oly have one song (5 colours in her hair by mcfly - no flaming, its just cos it'll go down well).

i was intending to do livin on a prayer by bon jovi, bu its too high for our singers to reach (which really annoys me).

so i am looking for a alternative. i want a song that's relatively easy (i know some people like to show off by saying some of this mental shred stuff is easy, but i dont want that please, i mean actually easy).

it needs to hav a good guitar line that will sound good to non-players but isnt too taxing.

it also needs to be a fairly well known song, as we will be playing to a very mixed audience, so something fairly old would probably good.

we have guitarists (but only one that can play lead), bass, male and female singers and drums. it also wouldnt be a problem to adapt a song to fit what we have.

thanks a lot

why dont you just play living on a prayer, but play it in a lower key?
#4
because that would mean tuning down which we dont have the time/extra guitars for

Ok so get the singers to sing it an octave lower and keep the instrumentation exactly the same?
I play by my own rules. And I have one rule; There are no rules... but if there are, they're there to be broken. Even this one.

plus, playing in a lower key would make the verses a lot lower and therefore unreachable.

and whats wrong with the last thing i said?

changing the key doesn't mean that you have to detune, even the newest of n00bz knows that

well i did know that, but its a lot of work to transpose that song, as the main riff has an open low e string, so itd be all messed up

singing it an octave lower meant the chorus just didnt have the energy it needed.

anyway, i was asking for suggestions for alternative songs in the same vein as living on a prayer

I've heard people do it an octave lower and it sounded fine, so I'm going to assume your singer just sucks or something.

Anyway, just play some Green Day... Everyone enjoys Green Day. But nothing off American Idiot (not because I dislike the album but because everyone covers it).

EDIT: Yes, they have other albums.

yer, well one singer is a girl and so she doesnt have much of the lower range, and the guy just lain sucks really. he's got good mid range when he just belts it out, but other than that its bad.

and as for green day, the gitar is too easy really and when first got into rock i was always though of as being a green day lover, when im actually not, so we'd get too much abuse for doing that.

im looking forsomething maybe 80's/early 90's, cos someof the schol staff wil be there, so i want somethingthey'll know

Green Day are early 90s, but fine, other suggestions:
Deep Purple - Black Night
Thin Lizzy - Boys Are Back In Town
Nirvana - In Bloom, Heart Shaped Box, whatever...
AC/DC - Highway to Hell, TNT, Back In Black (or is that not simple enough?)

These are all songs that go down pretty well.
