I was thinking yesterday. I wanted to put a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat in HSS Strat. Would that work? If any of you have any experience about this, it woudl be great if you could tell me. I think the phat cat sounds great, if it won't work, I'll just use a SH4 JB.

I was looking for more than just a yes or no. Maybe some things that back up it? Please?

If you want more than just a yes or no. Take the time to construct a sentence or two and ask a question that will result in the kind of answers you're looking for.

"Would that work?"

Did you actually expect more than a yes or no answer?????

Facts:

A PhatCat is a SC pickup in a standard HB size.

It sounds something like a P-90.

It's not hum-canceling when used alone.

It will fit in your HB opening.

That's as good as you're gonna get with a lame OP. Stop whining about the quality of the answers you get. Put some effort into your OP, and you'll get better responses.

Good luck,
SYK

I don't have a phat cat, but I put a GFS humbucker sized p90 in my strat and it sounds really good. You get a nice single coil bite with output closer to a humbucker.

TO SYK: Dude... don't have to snap geeze. What with the obsession with the OP? I just asked the guy kindly (I even said please) to widen up his answer a bit. Gosh... lol

I guess I'll try it. I was just wondering if there was like anything that a strat had that a p90 wouldn't work in it that's all.

Btw... what does it mean by, "If it is used by itself, it is not hum-canceling?"

phat cats are nice, they are a p90 but dont sound like the overpriced gibsons.ive played a hollow boddy that had them in it and it sounded nice, not only that, but we have a local guy who has a blue strat with a p90 in the neck and bridge and a supper distortion in the middle, doesn't sound to much like the standard thin strat, it sounds beefy and warm. so id say go for it dude

Meaning, it's a single coil, so it will hum - unlike your previous humbucker.

I agree, though - The Phat Cat sounds like a P-90, but is by no means a substitute, in terms of tone.

The Phat Cat will be warmer than a normal Stratsingle coil, but brighter than your previous humbucker.

Now, I need a guinea pig again, so go buy the Mean 90 at guitarfetish.com.

Isn't there like a SD P-90 with Hum canceling? The STK-P1 if I'm not mistaken... anyone heard of that?

I don't get why you're looking at the Phat Cat, but are considering the JB if it "won't work"...they're both completely different. You'd be better off looking at the Pearly Gates or 59 as an alternative.
