I have played guitar for 3 years now but actually never studied the soloing techniques and never went anything further from some Iron Maiden solos. So now for plain interest I started learning sweeping this week. However I have a small problem understanding the "finger rolling"-thing. I can finger roll with index finger all right, but am I supposed to finger roll the index finger all the time I sweep when using other fingers for the fretboard too at the same time? For example,

G 15-------------------------------15
B --- 14-------------------14
E-----------13------13

If I sweep that lick, do I roll my index finger to mute the ones I have just played or is it ok to for example in 14 to lift the middle finger a bit to mute it, therefore not finger rolling with index finger? Would love to know before I start training seriously, thanks!

I only know one sweep picking lick and it goes as follows:

Q = 110 (or so)

E|-10p9-----------------9--10p9-----------------9--|
B|-------10----------10----------10----------10----|
G|----------11----11----------------11----11-------|
D|-------------12----------------------12----------|
A|-------------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------------------|
   2  1  2  3  4  3  2  1  2  1  2  3  4  3  2  1

And what I've always done is finger each note as I pick it (mute with the fret hand, basically) instead of fingering the chord and muting with the pick hand.

A couple things to note, just as friendly prods in the right direction:
1) The proper place for this question is the advanced techniques forum
