Id say take the finish off all together and spray a few coats of thinner lacquer on it. or just Tung oil it.

Just rub the back of the neck with 0000 steel wool for now. If that doesn't make the neck to your liking, sand off the finish and then give it an oil finish.

wait, I'm about to spray a guitar I'm building with laquer. You're saying it sticks when it gets hot? Are you saying that it sort of melts and gets sticky? or are you saying that it's sticky like how smooth glass is sort of sticky?

The coating is really sticky compared to my ibanez. I prefer alot smoother neck. I am gonna try wire woolfirst and then see how that goes. how does an oil finish feel?

^ Oily at first, but then it gets very smooth. You will have to re-apply oil every so often.

Smooth glass kinda sticky, since its so glossy. Don't worry it doesn't melt.
