I was looking to upgrade my amp over the holidays this year, and I surfed up on the Line 6 Spider III. I thought it looked nice, but I looked on here and all I hear is that they are overpriced. Can someone point me towards a good quality amp for metal at or lower than the Spider's price?

I was looking at the $499 one, but I would prefer a bit cheaper if I could find a good amp.

He plays Metal, a Valvetronix won't work for Metal except for early Metallica.

Get a High Gain amp like a 5150/6505 or a Randall.

well the early metallica can get really heavey!!!!
and no the vox can not handle the early metallica stuff....i tryed to play master of puppets on it...no chance!

so i would eather get the vox50vt and get a rat or a metal muff oooooooor i would take a used engl screamer!

A Valvetronix will work.

Have you not heard of the Valvetronix XL.

You seem to be interested in the Spider, so pretty much the Vox Valvetronix XL is just a way better version of that basically.

What's hapening to UG? There should be 50 recommendations for the Roland Cube by this point in the thread!

Maybe something like this Randall? Or maybe stretching your budget a tad for this one?

Your amp supplies, conservatively, 80-90% of your tone. You should always get the best amp you can afford. The right amp will last you a long time. Randall does metal really well.
